The World International School of Turin enhances its students’ learning experiences with architecture workshops.
Turin, 1 July 2024 — To culminate the academic year, the World International School of Torino (WINS) has organized architecture workshops linked to the PYP students’ last Unit of Inquiry to allow a deeper rooting of the transdisciplinary learning and practice of the ATL skills.
Conceived and led by the architect and international architecture children’s educator Morena Ricci, all elementary grades participated in creating a new version of their city: TURIN’S EVOLUTION. Unlike in mathematics, architecture has no right or wrong outcome; spatial interpretation is shared with others through an inquisitive approach that leads to discussions and comparisons. More specifically, architecture was not a concept in the experience but a joint project.
Through various techniques, students created public and private spaces, including places they dreamed about and joined them with bridge structures, experiencing the fundamental principles of physics and sustainability. Students’ interaction with the environment that they imagined has helped them develop sensitivity towards what we see and what we would like instead. Consequently, they created the basis of consciousness and a critical approach, where one’s thoughts become a topic of discussion and growth within their group first and in our society in the future.
Paolo Pietro Formiga, Founder and CEO of WINS, said: “The experience has been an exciting interplay of planning, collaboration, creative thinking, predictions, and much fun! In many European countries, architecture is already a curricular subject in elementary school; therefore, the workshops are additional evidence of WINS’ commitment to providing its students with high-end and innovative teaching and learning opportunities.”

WINS is pleased to share the outstanding results of our recent International Baccalaureate (IB) evaluation process, which are summarized in the conclusions of the Evaluation Report:
“The school benefits from a strong leadership team, supported by passionate teachers who are committed to lifelong learning. The supportive school environment supports a culture of collaboration and trust. The school has strategically revised its leadership structures and systems to ensure it can successfully support effective programme implementation and sustainability.
The school identified, developed, and successfully implemented programme development plans that focused on developing a coherent curriculum continuum for the MYP and DP and on developing collaborative planning structures for the PYP teachers to support the development of collaborative transdisciplinary learning and teaching in the PYP.
The school continues its long-standing commitment to IB philosophy.”
(Evaluation report, May 2024)
These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to the IB philosophy and our continuous pursuit of excellence in education. We are incredibly proud of our community’s hard work and dedication, which have led to these commendable outcomes.
