What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files sent by the website to the Data Subject’s terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored to be retransmitted to the website during the next visit by the same user. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from the user’s hard drive, transmit computer viruses, or acquire email addresses. Each cookie is unique to the user’s web browser. Some cookie functions may be delegated to other technologies. In this document, the term ‘cookie’ refers to both cookies and similar technologies.

Types of cookies

Cookies can be first-party or third-party, where “first-party” refers to cookies that have the website’s domain, while “third-party” refers to cookies related to external domains.

Third-party cookies are necessarily installed by an external entity, always defined as “third-party,” not managed by the website. These entities may also install first-party cookies, saving their cookies on the website’s domain.

Nature of cookies

Regarding the nature of cookies, different types can be identified:

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are used solely to “carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service.”

They are not used for additional purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or manager. They can be divided into:

  • Navigation or session cookies, which ensure normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); they are necessary for the proper functioning of the website.
  • Analytics cookies, assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the website manager to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the website, to improve the site’s performance.
  • Functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (e.g., language) to improve the service provided to the user. The installation of these cookies does not require the prior consent of users (more information in the Cookie Management section below).

Profiling cookie

Profiling cookies are aimed at creating user profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web.

These technologies do not collect users’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, or addresses. The use of profiling cookies requires the consent of the Data Subject. According to the provision (more information in the Cookie Management section below), the user can authorize or deny consent to the installation of cookies through the options provided in the “Cookie Management” section.

In the case of third-party cookies, the website does not have direct control over individual cookies and cannot control them (it cannot install or delete them directly). You can still manage these cookies through browser settings (follow the instructions below), or the sites indicated in the “Cookie Management” section.

The User is therefore invited to verify on the third-party site indicated in the table below.

Regulatory framework and cookie management

In compliance with the regulations on personal data protection (EU Reg. 679/2016, Legislative Decree June 30, 2003, No. 196, as amended by Legislative Decree 101/18, hereinafter “Code”) and with reference to the Provision of the Data Protection Authority on Simplified Arrangements for Information and Acquisition of Consent for the Use of Cookies – May 8, 2014 (Published in the Official Gazette No. 126 of June 3, 2014) and the Guidelines issued by the Data Protection Authority on June 10, 2021, the User can deny their consent and/or modify their options regarding the use of cookies by this Website at any time. To this end, the user can proceed independently, through their browser following the instructions in the information, in the dedicated section.

In any case, WINS has implemented a function that allows the Data Subject to modify their cookie consent at any time, directly through the following link .

In any case, the User can disable/delete cookies directly from their browser.

The Controller will keep appropriate track of the User’s consent(s) through a specific technical cookie, considered by the Privacy Authority as a “not particularly invasive” tool.

If consent has already been given but you want to change cookie permissions, you need to delete them through the browser, as indicated below, because otherwise those already installed will not be removed. In particular, it should be noted that third-party cookies cannot be controlled in any way, so if consent has already been given previously, it is necessary to proceed with the deletion of cookies through the browser (dedicated section) or by requesting opt-out directly from third parties or through the site http://www.youronlinechoices.com/it/le-tue-scelte
